The first full day of competition at the International Rally of Queensland, has seen Simon Evans continue to show the way leading both the ARC and outright standings.Evans won all stages in the ARC component on a day of domination from the reigning Australian Touring Car Champion.
Not having such a good day was Chris Atkinson, who was finished early for the day after his car stopped on Stage 8. Atkinson Proton came to a halt on a river crossing. The position of his car meant the APRC was downgraded and the other drivers were allocated derived times for the stage. This robbed the crowd that had formed at the spectator park on the Big Gibber stage of the chance to see their local star in action. It is unclear if Atkinson will be able to rejoin the Rally tomorrow.
Behind Evans the battle for second in the ARC was tightly fought all day. In the end Justin Dowel was able to hold off Ryan Smart for second with the latter claiming third.
