In 2004 Rick Kelly was leading the third and final race of the weekend at the SKYCITY Triple Crown in Darwin when a brake problem saw him hurtle off at the end of the long Hidden Valley main straight.
Having won Race 2 earlier in the day, the brake failure ended Kelly's chances of victory, with brother Todd taking the lead and claiming the race and overall round win.
Fast forwarding to 2011 in Darwin, Hidden Valley Raceway evened the ledger with Rick Kelly, as the Jack Daniel’s Racing driver pounced after an incident involving the leaders at a restart to claim his second race win at Hidden Valley – his first since that fateful Sunday in 2004.
“I think this is Darwin’s little repayment,” said Rick Kelly after today’s win.
“The JD car was probably good enough to finish fourth on outright pace, but we had a reasonable restart when all the kerfuffle went on into Turn 1.”
