For eleven seasons from 1988 to 1998, Dick Johnson and John Bowe forged one of the longest and most successful team mate partnerships in Australian Motorsport history.
In 1994, the pair scored their second Bathurst 1000 crown together. In a race that had it all, JB survived a late challenge from a young Craig Lowndes in his Great Race debut. Bowe went on to win the championship with DJR in the same car the following year.
It is fitting that 20 years on from that memorable race, Wilson Security is bringing the two legends back together.
Bowe will join Johnson in actively mentoring and coaching the young gun line up at Wilson Security Racing in 2014 – David Wall and Scott Pye. The new look Wilson Security Racing team continues the young driver concept adopted by DJR in 2013.
“I am excited to be taking an active role with Dick and Wilson Security Racing this year.” Bowe said.
“Dick’s team deserves the support they are now getting. I’ve always admired Dick’s ‘never say die’ attitude particularly last year and he’s now got the right people and a great sponsor to guide the team to the success it deserves. My role will be on and off track and I will work with Dick on really bringing Scott and David and the co-drivers on. I am very pleased to be back with my ‘family’ V8 Supercar team. Having Wilson Security commit to the team for two years just highlights the potential we have here.” John added.
Dick Johnson went on to say “JB is a great mate of mine and really is like family. We have been through so much together over the years and had some great wins at Sandown and Bathurst together not to mention the championships. Having him back in the fold thanks to Wilson Security is a real coup for us. He has mentored a lot of young drivers over the years and what he does in Mustang Sally on race weekends (in the Touring Car Masters series) shows these young blokes he’s still got what it takes!”
The Wilson Security Racing Team will launch its new colours and driver line up at the official V8 Supercars Test Day on 15 February 2014 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
