Jumping the start of today's race meant Team BOC's Jason Bright had a ten-second penalty to serve but that was the least of his problems a few laps later.

A rubbing tyre saw him drop back from eighth on the grid before fill-in driver David Russell squeezed him into the wall. Fortunately the only casualty was the Pepsi Max driver and the resulting safety car gave Bright the chance to serve his penalty as well as get some fresh rubber.

From the back of the train Team BOC decided to buck the trend and run the race on only two pit stops instead of three. That saw him climb back to P10 in the closing laps but he had no defence against drivers on fresher rubber, dropping to P13 by the chequered flag.

V8 Supercars will be back in action at Townsville from 6th-8th July.

Jason Bright

Team BOC

"I locked up several times going into Turn Four in the first few laps and my right front tyre was buggered pretty early but we had to slug it out until that first pit stop.

"The way that safety car fell meant a lot of guys went for the three-stop option with race strategy. We gained a lot of places by staying on the two-stop option but it was never going to get us from last to first.

"I knew we would work our way back up but if a safety car had come we would have ended up right at the back again so it was quite a stressful gamble.

"We didn't have anything left by the time the three-stoppers caught us. They had ten-lap fresher tyres and, even though our tyre life was better, you can't compete with that. All in all we still got some points out of it so it wasn't such a bad day."
