It was a positive opening day for TeamVodafone at the Phillip Island 300, Jamie Whincup setting the fastest time of the two open practice sessions while endurance co-driver Paul Dumbrell set the fastest time of the day in the official co-driver only session.
Teammate Craig Lowndes ended the day second to his teammate on combined P2 and P3 times.
Hitting the 4.44km track for the first time in the third practice session of the day, Jamie Whincup posted the quickest time of the session on used hard compound tyres before it was cut short due to oil on the track.
The defending V8 Supercar Champion remained on the same set of tyres for the final session of the day to focus on the car set up. Whincup ended the session fourth and quickest overall of the two main practice sessions.
The #888 Holden Commodore worked to a similar practice strategy, a strong tail wind aiding Lowndes in setting the second fastest time in Practice 2.
Lowndes used the final 20 minute hit out to focus on car set up and ended the session eighth .
Dumbrell, who joined TeamVodafone for the two opening practice sessions and was quickest in the second practice session, set the third quickest lap time in the co-driver only session.
Tomorrow will see an early morning practice session followed Qualifying at 1.25pm (AEST). Race 10 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will commence at 4.05pm (AEST).
