Proud dad Dave Richards will be back in action for his son, V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards, next weekend after missing the last two race meetings.Until then Dave had only missed seven races in Jason's entire life and says sitting at home with a broken arm was ‘agony’.
The 64-year-old, who travels from Nelson NZ for every round of the Australian Championship, has been chauffeur, mechanic, engine builder and coach to Jason during his 26-year career and now works for Team BOC as Tyre Technician.
“It was a major issue to be honest,” said Dave, who missed the Darwin and Townsville rounds of the Championship. “It was actually painful not to be there; you feel so limited. I love Darwin; it’s such a fantastic city and he normally has a very good run there.”
Dave, who Jason describes as his 'wingman’ has his TV programmed to play Australian Channel Seven, V8 Supercars' host broadcaster' but said it was torture to be so far away.
“The win is coming,” he said. “We've just got to get all the ducks lined up. We've got the potential and I believe he's got the talent. It was agony not to be there but I’ll be back for Phillip Island next weekend and I’ve got a good feeling about that.”
The next round of the championship is the L&H 500 at Phillip Island next weekend.
