Donut King / Achilles Tyres Commodore Cup drivers Adam Beechey and Dean Crosswell will this weekend aim for their third consecutive victory in the Commodore Cup Endurance Challenge for the Ashley Cooper Memorial Trophy at Winton Raceway.
In 2010, Beechey and Crosswell used clever strategy to take out the opening leg of the annual Commodore Cup enduro at Winton, and then backed up with a strong third place in the second leg to clinch the overall victory.
Last year they finished second in Leg 1 and first in Leg 2 to take the round honours, despite Beechey being knocked out of the lead by Steve Owen on the very last lap of the weekend. Owen was subsequently penalised.
And for Beechey’s rivals, the signs heading into this weekend are ominous; so far, Beechey has won every single race, and also claimed pole position in the previous round at Mallala to amass a perfect scorecard of 301 points.
“I’m looking forward to this weekend,” Beechey said. “Kenton Ferguson has done a lot of work on the car since Mallala, and his cars have won three of the four Commodore Cup enduros held so far, as has Dean.
“I think this weekend will be competitive, but I’m really looking forward to returning to Winton, which has been a happy hunting ground for me in the past, and generating some more good exposure for Donut King and Achilles Tyres.
The Commodore Cup Endurance Challenge kicks off with practice on Friday, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday. Sunday’s race will be streamed live on www.itvlive.com.au.
