Jonny Reid is the Phillip Island round nomination for the MICHELIN Australia Sportsperson of the Year.
The award recognises the driver in the Porsche City Index Carrera Cup Australia who most reflects the core values of Michelin; safety, performance and respect.
In an up and down weekend for the New Zealander, Reid fought back from a DNF in race one to win the third and final race.
Reid was judged to have fought hard, but fair, to get back on the top step of the podium at the Phillip Island round of the Championship.
This was Reid’s second round win in a row having taken the win in the previous round in Perth.
The overall winner of the Michelin Australia Sportsperson of the Year will win $25,000 worth of Michelin tyres for the 2013 championship.
The award is not just about racing performance, but about the driver’s behaviour and attitude on and off the track. The winner will be a driver who, at all times, drives safely and cleanly.
The Michelin team will be back at Phillip Island later this week for the second round of the Australian GT Championship. The first round was the first round of the Championship under the new rules – including the open tyre regulations. This rule change has allowed Michelin’s competitors to enter the championship and fight for the title of Tyre Manufacture of the Year.
After dominating first round, Michelin is hoping to have the same success with its partners at Phillip Island.
