Colin Sieders looks to finish year on high at Homebush

The Bisley Workwear Falcon of Colin Sieders has hit the track for the final, and local, round of the 2011 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Homebush Olympic Park this weekend, 2-4th December 2011.

Finishing just outside the Top Ten at the same event last year, Penrith resident, Sieders, is looking towards another strong showing in front of a large crowd, including friends and family, in what will be only his fourth event this year.

“We almost cracked the [Top] 10 last year, so we’d love to do it this time,” said Sieders, “we got turned around in Race Two, and finished three places further back than where we were, which would have placed us comfortably in the Top 10, so hopefully we can avoid any incidents this year”.

“We’ve just had the three rounds this year, so hopefully we can have a strong result here in Sydney,” said Sieders, “it’s our local round for us, and for Bisley, so we expect to have a lot of people cheering us on, and hopefully we can give them a good result at home”.

Although Sieders is upbeat about his final hit-out for the year, the 29 year-old is lucky to have made the round, coming off three weeks of bed rest.

“It’s been a less than ideal lead-up to the weekend,” said Sieders, “a combination of a virus and infection had me so fatigued, with symptoms similar to that of pneumonia, but I’ve been up and about in the last few days and I reckon I’ll be fine for the weekend”.

Whilst the Sieders Racing Team is looking to finalise its plans for 2012, there is a clear intention that another season within the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series will only be feasible with a major upgrade.

“Our car is eight years old compared to the current spec and run cars at the front of the Championship,” said Sieders, “a new car wouldn’t mean we’re a walk-up winner, but we’re definitely not going to get any better results with this car next year”.

“Our car was one of the original BA Falcons built by Ford Performance Racing, and upgraded by Britek before we picked it up,” said Sieders, “but we’re looking at what’s on the market with regards to a new car or even a complete change”.

Sieders finished 21st in this morning’s first Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series’ Practice Session, whilst he improved his time in the 2nd session he dropped to 22nd in the standings. Qualifying at is 9am today, followed by Race One at 12.45, and Race Two at 12.55 on Sunday.

“We’re just over four seconds off the new Practice Record set in the same session, which places us about the same gap at the same time last year, so we’ve just got to put our head down and get the results in Qualifying and the Races.”
