Sargent Security Racing is set to embark on its inaugural trip to Mt Panorama for this weekend’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with Paul Morris in the both the main game and Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
Morris will pilot the 1300GUARDS Commodore for the second time this year after finishing second in his debut event with Sargent Security Racing at Queensland Raceway in August.
Things are geared-up to be a busy weekend for Morris who is also contesting the show-stoping Bathurst 1000 event with Sargent Security-backed team V.I.P. Petfoods and V8 Supercar regular Steve Owen.
After a 30-minute qualifying session on Friday crews will line up for the first of two, 14-lap Fujitsu Series races around the great circuit with the later concluding Saturday afternoon.
“It’s going to be one hell of a weekend of racing!” Morris commented.
“The Sargent Security car showed great speed at QR and hopefully we can go one better and win the round here at Bathurst.”
And the possibility of that maiden win for Sargent Security Racing could well come to fruition with Morris gridding-up as the most experienced of the Fujitsu Series drivers around the mountain.
This will be Morris’ 19th Bathurst 1000 start and it’s that experience of kilometres at Mt Panorama that holds him in good stead ahead of this weekend’s fifth round of the series.
Morris’ greatest Bathurst 1000 achievement came in 1999 when he stood tall on the podium with Mark Skaife for the Holden Racing Team after the pair finished the 161 laps third overall.
Further to his illustrious Bathurst career the ‘Dude’ has won the Bathurst 12hr event twice, once in 2007 and again last year.
The 23-turn, 6.21 kilometre Mount Panorama circuit is an exciting, white-knuckle circuit that opened some 73 years ago on April 17, 1938.
With a 174 metre vertical difference between its highest and lowest points the circuit is one of the most intense race-tracks and regarded as one of the truly great circuits, by drivers across the globe.
