NOVOCASTRIAN Motorsport will field three upgraded entries in the 2013 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series.
With Drew Russell, Aaren Russell and Michael Hector to continue with the team, two current specification Stone Brothers Racing FG Falcons have already been purchased for use in the new season. The source of the third car is yet to be finalised, with a number of options – including the purchase of a third Stone Brothers Racing Falcon – currently being assessed.
One of the oldest and most successful teams in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, Stone Brothers Racing won championships in 2003 and 2004 with Marcos Ambrose and in 2005 with Russell Ingall.
In 2011, Shane van Gisbergen won two races for the squad, while the New Zealander and SBR team-mates Lee Holdsworth and Tim Slade all sit inside the top nine of the 2012 V8 Supercar standings. An SBR-built FG Falcon also leads the 2012 Dunlop Series, driven by Scott McLaughlin.
The two Russell brothers sampled McLaughlin’s Falcon – then run in-house by SBR – at Queensland Raceway in late May.
Since 2009, Novocastrian Motorsport has fielded Brad Jones Racing-built BF Falcons in the second-tier V8 Supercar Series. The cars have been powered by Stone Brothers Racing engines since 2010.
The 2012 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series continues at Bathurst on October 4-6. After four rounds, Drew Russell sits 10th in the standings, with Aaren Russell 17th and first-year driver Michael Hector 21st in their Carrington Equipment Group and CEG Rentals-backed Falcons.
WAYNE RUSSELL
“This is incredibly exciting news for the team; it’s a major boost looking ahead to the 2013 season. We’re excited to continue with Drew, Aaren and Michael, and to have secured two Stone Brothers Racing Falcons at this early stage.
“Stone Brothers Racing are undoubtedly one of the top teams in pitlane. Their record speaks for itself and their FGs have proven to be fast, week-in, week-out.
“We really value the relationship we’ve been able to build with SBR in recent years through their engine program. They’ve been a great partner on that front and we’re looking forward to taking that to the next level in 2013.
“Drew and Aaren were really impressed when they tested Scott McLaughlin’s Falcon at Queensland Raceway in May. Not only the speed of the car and how nice it was to drive, but also the build quality and attention to detail.
“Our current cars are eight years old and it’s a credit to our guys that they’re still as competitive as they are, with Drew finishing inside the Top 10 at Barbagallo Raceway and Townsville. With the influx of Level 1 machinery, it’s been getting tougher and tougher, but we’ve kept chipping away. We’re already looking forward to getting out there with the new cars next year.
“We’re currently working through the process of securing a third chassis, and look forward to announcing this in due course.”
