In the final days leading up to this weekends Armor All Bathurst 12 hour race, Wagga driver Hayden Pullen claims their team does not require assistance of anyone from Formula One to win the class.
Pullen will drive the Climate Control Sceptic #25 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in the round the clock race at Mount Panorama with Paul Freestone and David Seiders in Class C.
He was responding to news one of the teams rivals for class honours, the Bruce Lynton BMW sponsored M3 to be driven by Beric Lynton, Matthew Mackelden and John Modystach have called on some Formula One know-how as they chase the win.
The Lynton team have enlisted former F1 engineer Ralph Bellamy to assist in the 12 hour race, prompting Pullen, who is from Wagga Wagga in the Riverina, to say his team didn’t need that help, instead they would rely on technology from the bush!
We’ve prepared the Corvette from our shed here in Wagga, and last year Paul (Freestone) won the GT Production Championship in the car.
“On top of that we’ve engineered many cars from around here (Riverina) and in Victoria that are continual race winners in car and truck racing, and we’ve won the Victorian Super TT Series in our AU Falcon last year, winning every race, so that’s not bad for boys from the bush.”
“We are also fully responsible for the ex Ford Performance Racing Ford Falcon BF that James Moffat raced in the Fujitsu (Series) last year. Paul(Freestone) bought it last year, and it is now in our Wagga workshop and we’ll be responsible for all engineering on it.”
“At this stage everything is on track. The whole car has been stripped and rebuilt from front to back, and we’re very proud of our signage on the front of the car, “CO2 is no THREAT - CARBON TAX IS, ” Pullen said.
The Corvette carries sponsorship from the ‘Climate Control Skeptics Party’, and as such is attracting an amazing amount of attention.
Leader of the party Mr Leon Ashby, said the party and the guys in the race team are prepared to be ridiculed for our views because we think for ourselves
“We don`t suck up to governments, green groups and corporations wanting to appear concerned for the environment, but which in fact are going to stuff up the environment by Australia becoming a less prosperous society - so we cannot afford to do things better while at the same time removing plant food from the air,” he said.
”We want people to question whether Australia can change global climate by reducing CO2 by one part in a hundred million (within the atmosphere*) The equivalent of reducing a 100 km string by one millimetre.
“We are told lies that the gas which makes plants grow (CO2) is a pollutant. We are told sea levels are rising when they are not.
“We are told the Murray River will cease flowing, snowfall will reduce and rainfall will be sparser. Of course these things will always vary, but only as they always have.
“We are told businesses need certainty on a carbon price but a certain carbon price of zero is not good enough,” Mr Ashby concluded.
The Armor All Bathurst 12 hour race will be run at Mount Panorama this weekend, February 4-6, and the Freestone/Pullen/Sieders Corvette will be in the hotly contested class C, against the BMW M3, Nissan GTR R35 and Lotus Exige.
