Daniel Ricciardo was back on form at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany this afternoon, setting the quickest time of the day as the Formula Renault 3.5 season got underway following a nine week summer break. The Perth born racer, who currently lies second in the championship standings, was second quickest in this morning’s session and went one better to set the fastest time of the day this afternoon.
Despite not having raced since the first week of July, Daniel showed no hesitation as he took to the track this morning and was immediately on the pace. The young Australian put in a consistent performance throughout the 1 hour 15 minute session, and as the chequered flag fell was second quickest.
Having made several changes to his set up following discussions with his engineer, Daniel returned to the track this afternoon to perfect his high downforce set-up and work on a low down force configuration. A new tyre run at the end of the day confirmed Daniel’s pace as he leapt to the top of the timing screens and also set the quickest time of the day overall.
Speaking about testing, Daniel said, “I’m happy with the progress we made today. The car felt very balanced in both the low and downforce set-ups. I feel like we have a good package here, I think we are in good shape for qualifying tomorrow.”
Daniel will return to the track for qualifying tomorrow morning at 09.15 local time.
