Super Trucks heading back to Queenland Raceway for season opener

The mighty Super Trucks will unleash their thunderous big rig mayhem upon Queensland Raceway for the first time since 2001, to headline an all-action round four of the 2010 Queensland Racing Drivers Championship (QRDC) on August 14 & 15. The Australian National Truck Racing Organisation (ANTRO) will bring fourteen trucks and almost 100 personnel from all points of the nation to the Sunshine State for the first round of the 2010 Australian Super Truck Sprint Series.

Three truck divisions will take to the track within each race – Super Trucks, Race Trucks and Light Trucks. These divisions are classified by engine capacity, vehicle weight and configuration. The Light Trucks, for example, are approximately half the weight and half the power of the Super Trucks, making for some extremely tight racing despite the differing sizes.

“Those little blokes are all over the Super Trucks on the tight circuits,” joked ANTRO President Rob Waters, “but the big boys will come into their own on the longer straights at QR. I guarantee it will be superb entertainment.”

Also venturing into maroon territory for QRDC Round 4 will be three categories from the New South Wales-based iRace Independent Race Series. iRace’s two tin top categories feature the modern makes of The Super Hoist Plus Production Racing Cars – Falcons, Commodores, Subarus, Mitsubishis, Nissans, BMWs etc - and the older classics of the McHitch Touring Car Challenge – Fords, Holdens, Nissans, etc including the HDT Muscle Division.

iRace will also bring a selection of open wheelers from their Formula Tasman category. Formula Tasman covers a wide range of open wheel racers including Formula 3000, Formula 5000, Indy Cars and Formula Holdens.

Adding to the spectacle of QRDC Round 4 is two of the most popular categories in the state, the venerable HQ Holdens and the thrill-a-minute Holden Geminis. Both the Geminis and the HQs have captured the imagination of Queensland fans throughout the past two decades with their no-holds-barred attitude to overtaking manouvres and the incredible closeness of racing as they barrel down the straights three and four abreast.

Top off this incredible line up a hot selection of local sedans, saloons and sports cars in the QR Sedans and Sports Cars category plus a field of local open wheelers in the QR Racing Cars division and you have the hottest amateur field to grid up in southeast Queensland this year.

At just $20 per person, per day the Queensland Racing Drivers Championship Round 4 has to be the best value motor racing on the Queensland sports calendar. With big rigs, touring cars and open wheelers this is one massive weekend not to be missed!

QLD RACING DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 4
Queensland Raceway, Champions Way, Willowbank Saturday, August 14 & Sunday August 15, 8.30am-4pm Saturday features qualifying and racing Sunday features seven hours of action-packed racing
