Borland Racing mid season review - Spectrum "well above average"

With the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship and many State Championships now at or just past their mid points, it seemed convenient to check how the locally built Spectrum has been performing. “Well above average,” would be what would be written if the Spectrum was to be issued with a report card! On the National scene, Synergy Motorsport’s Chaz Mostert leads the way from Ash Walsh, driving for the Borland Racing Developments factory squad. Both drivers are aboard the 2010 model Spectrum 012.

Synergy Motorsport continue their successful season to date, with Daniel Cotton leading the NSW Formula Ford series, with his team mate Stefan Borsato in 3rd place. Daniel and Stefan drive the Spectrum 011b from 2007, proving that these cars are more than capable of running at the front of a competitive field.

With the Spectrum designed and built in Melbourne, you would expect it to do well in its home state. That could be considered an understatement, with the chassis dominating Formula Ford and Formula Ford 1600 in both the four round CAMS Victorian State Championship and the six round Victorian State Racing Series.

Mark Samson leads the VSRS Formula Ford 1600 Championship, from Nicki Templer. Despite missing the opening round, Luke Ellery sits in 4th place. In the CAMS Victorian Championship, the names remain, but the order changes. Luke leads Mark and Nicki for a Spectrum 010b trifecta, again proving the Spectrum 010b to be the World’s best Formula Ford 1600!

Having won the 2009 CAMS Championship for Formula Ford 1600, Jesse Fenech now leads the Formula Ford title chase. The VSRS points see Minda Motorsport’s Garry Jacobson leading his team mate Matthew Brabham, with Jesse in 4th.

Whilst the results in themselves are very impressive indeed, it is particularly noteworthy to highlight the range of the achievements. The Spectrum chassis leads the National Championship and five State Championship pointscores. The six lists are headed by six different drivers, run by four different professional teams and one privateer team who utilises the factory technical support available to all Spectrum owners. Spectrum Formula Ford – factory developed, race winning Formula Ford technology, available off the shelf to teams and individuals.
