The Alan East Motorsport team of David and Des Wall, and Trevor Symonds are set to raise awareness of prostate cancer at next weekend’s Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro.
Alan East Motorsport will join forces with the event charity, The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, (PCFA) to raise money and awareness of the important work the foundation does. In addition to running the charities logo on the teams Mitsubishi Evo IX GSR, they will also sell helicopter joy flights thanks to their sponsor, Platinum Helicopters.
Platinum Helicopters will offer flights over the famous Mt Panorama track during the 12-hour race for $100 per person with 50% of the fare to be donated to PCFA. The flights over the circuit will offer spectators a unique opportunity to see the circuit like they have never seen it before.
For David Wall it is the second time in less than 6 months that he has raced for a cancer charity at Bathurst. At last year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 David raced with the Wilson Security Racing V8 Supercar team that was “pinked” for the race. The team ran in support of the McGrath Foundation.
“To be able to combine racing at Bathurst with raising awareness for the PCFA is a fantastic opportunity,” said David.
“Hopefully we are able to give the spectators who go up on the joy flights something to cheer about!”
As the official charity of the Bathurst 12 Hour, PCFA will head up the awareness and activities that will run over the weekend and is pleased to be a part of the event including free men health check Pit Stops and there will be the opportunity to raise funds through to support the cause through helicopter joy flights.
“It’s going to be a chance for men to stop in for a pit stop at out specially marked zone for a free health check and information about prostate cancer,” Wendy Farrow , PCFA State Manager explained.
“Men are good at putting their car in for a service but they just need to remember to check in with the doctor as well.”
Members of the local prostate support group will also be present over the weekend.
Practice 1 gets under way at 9am on Friday 12 February, with the main race starting at 6:30am on Sunday morning.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) is the peak national body for prostate cancer in Australia. It is dedicated to:
· funding research into the cause, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of prostate cancer.
· raising awareness about prostate cancer
· providing support, information and advocacy to men and their families impacted by prostate cancer
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Australia and the second greatest cause of cancer deaths in men. The latest data shows that in 2010 almost 20,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Tragically more than 3,300 men will die as a direct cause of prostate cancer.
PCFA receives limited government funding and relies on the generosity of events like Movember and our corporate partners, individuals and the community to help continue our essential work.
