Red Bull and Webber hit the track but not without some problems

Having missed the season opening test, Red Bull unveiled their RB6 2010 car at Jerez overnight and got straight down to work

Mark Webber put the car through it's paces but a oil leak and weather meant the team didn't get through its intended programme of work.  Webber ended the day 9th fastest of the 10 cars at the test with a best time of 1:26.502.

“It was great to finally see the car in action after a long winter with no testing,” said Ian Morgan, Head of Race Engineering. “Everything ran very smoothly this morning and the build of the car was very structured.

"It’s frustrating that a problem with a simple component late morning forced an engine change later in the day, as it cost us quite a lot of time. However, the most disappointing thing today was the weather – it’s good to have a test in the wet, but it’s not ideal when it’s your first.

"We’re hoping for better conditions tomorrow when we will continue working through the new car system checks.”

Mercedes GP continued their good pre season for with Nico Rosberg topping the time sheet with a run of 1:20.927.  Meanwhile Virgin F1 made their debut, but it was low key with the car turning just a handful of laps.

Testing will continue tonight.
