One of Australia’s greatest rock bands Powderfinger will perform the night before the big race at the 2010 FORMULA 1 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX.

This year there will be not one, but two massive concerts at Albert Park on the Saturday and the Sunday evenings starting immediately after the racing action finishes. Each concert is included in the price of admission for all Saturday and Sunday ticket holders respectively.

As big fans of motorsport, Powderfinger, jumped at the chance to rock Albert Park.

“We think the Australian Grand Prix is a fantastic event and can’t wait to be part of the action at the circuit,” said lead singer Bernard Fanning.

Powderfinger’s latest multi-platinum album, Golden Rule, took out the award for Best Album at the inaugural Rolling Stone awards in January. The band has just finished headlining the Big Day Out to massive crowds across the country.

Following the Formula One race on Sunday night, legendary Scottish rock band Simple Minds will play a one-off concert in Australia.
Simple Minds have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide since 1979.

“We are very excited to be playing at the Australian Grand Prix at the end of March and we hope our many Australian fans will come and join us for what will be a fantastic show. We heard great things about The Who and KISS shows at your Grand Prix over the last couple of years. To be able to come back to Australia as a key part of this year's Grand Prix and to catch up with our Formula 1 mates will be brilliant,” said lead singer Jim Kerr.

This means for $99 on Sunday you get F1 racing, V8 Supercars, a host of support categories and the Simple Minds rock concert. On Saturday for just $85 you will see F1, V8s and a spectacular Powderfinger concert. Kids 12 and under are free (when accompanied by a paying adult) for all four days of the event.

The music action will continue at Sidetracked - the Grand Prix’s trackside music festival. Stay tuned for an announcement this week with some of Australia’s hottest bands and DJs.

Australian-Italian singer songwriter, Gabriella Cilmi who rocked into the limelight with her debut single ‘Sweet About Me’ will perform at the highly anticipated Grand Prix Ball at Crown on Friday 26 March followed by a special on-grid appearance to perform the National Anthem on Sunday with the Qantas Choir on Sunday.

The Australian Grand Prix is so much more than motorsport.
