Marcos Ambrose has performed well in the Carfax 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway, claiming 12th position in Brooklyn, Michigan today.
For Ambrose it was ‘mission accomplished’, as the Australian was determined to have a strong race on an oval to back up his win on the Watkins Glen road course last weekend.
Ambrose maintains 10th place in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings after 25 of 35 races. Three of this year’s Nationwide Series races are held on road courses, the other 32 are oval events.
Ambrose qualified 21st in the #59 Kingsford Ford Fusion and showed strong pace throughout the 125-lap race. In the end Ambrose matched the pace of the top 10 runners but was not able to make his way past rivals Brad Keselowski and series leader Clint Bowyer.
Ambrose will race in his fourth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and his second on an oval tomorrow in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway, starting from 39th position in the #21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford Fusion.
Earlier today Ambrose was 41st and 42nd fastest in the two Sprint Cup practice sessions held.

Back on 11 March, the FIA released a press release titled ‘FIA President outlines his vision for the greener future of F1’. The release coincided with a speech by Max Mosley to the International Advanced Mobility Forum (IAMF) at the Geneva Motor Show. In his speech, Mosley noted that from 2009 Formula One would be going hybrid. The focus would be on making better use of energy, or by getting more useful work from the fuel burned. The way this would be done, was by a system called Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). Whilst at the time the announcement was reported, it was given passing attention by the F1 media. However of late KERS has become the focus of paddock discussion and statements of concern from leading drivers. KERS may also be a way to increase overtaking in F1, via the energy being used for a power boost. So just what exactly is KERS and how did we get to where we are today? KERS is part of what is known as a ‘regenerative braking’. Regenerative breaking reduces a vehicles speed by converting its kinetic energy into another useful form of energy. |

Marcos Ambrose has scored his first NASCAR win with victory in the Zippo 200 at the Watkins Glen International road course in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in New York state today.
Ambrose is the first Australian to earn a NASCAR victory and his historic feat on the 2.45-mile road course lifts him into the top 10 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings.
Tomorrow, Ambrose will look to repeat today’s effort when he races in the top-tier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen in the #21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion of Wood Brothers Racing.
Since leaving Australia to pursue a career in NASCAR, Ambrose has made 83 NASCAR starts – 22 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 59 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and two in the top-flight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Next year Ambrose will race full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with JTG Daugherty Racing. Today’s win is the first for this team since former NBA star Brad Daugherty bought into the team and the first victory for the operation since 23 August 1996 when Jeff Fuller won the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway, also in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
